Ever heard of a sexual awakening and wondered what on earth it is?
In this article, we break down the mystery behind sexual awakening and give you some top tips on how you can use your holistic sexual wellness for more fulfilment, spiritual awakening, enlightening experiences, and of course—better sex.
What Is Female Sexual Awakening?
Sexual awakening is the process of connecting to all of your different facets, including your natural drive for pleasure, and sexual and sensual nature. It includes quite consciously connecting to your sex organs and reproductive system.
Sexual awakening is not just sexual arousal and tapping into your libido, it is also tapping into your ability to experience pleasure for spiritual awakening and self-development too.
Sexual energy is extremely powerful stuff, and during a sexual awakening, you use your sexuality and sensuality to become aware of and in tune with your true self.
What Does It Mean To Be Sexually Awakened?
Being sexually awakened is an empowering state of being in which you fully accept yourself, including your sexual and sensual nature.
When you work on getting into alignment with your authentic self, sex drive, and sensual pleasure you can start unlocking potent power and energy sources within you that can help to enhance your life in any way you wish.
The process of sexual awakening includes actively working to remove any residual shame and trauma around your sexual pleasure that may have been imposed on you due to society, culture, religion, family, friends, trauma, or any other experiences that have shaped your sexual identity.
During sexual awakening, you build confidence and self-esteem through the acceptance of your sexual pleasure, sexual desire, and sexual identity. And you channel your sexual energy to improve your skills in manifestation and abundance.
How Do I Activate My Sexual Energy?
Technically, your sexual energy is always active. However, you need to learn to connect to your sexual energy, and more importantly, learn how to channel that sexual energy for holistic wellness and spiritual awakening.
If you’re feeling disconnected from your sexual vitality and the power that it holds, then here are some simple tips on how to connect to your sexuality.
Simple Tips To Connect To Your Sexual Energy
1. Understand What Your Sexual Energy Is And What Sexual Awakening Is
Being a sexually awakening person doesn’t mean that you are going around being overtly or crudely sexual all the time, nor is it having a variety of sexual partners (which aren’t issues either if you’re into that)—but those behaviours do not define being sexually awakened.
It’s important to take the shame and mystery out of being sexually awakening. I believe that being sexually awakened is generally demonized—much like witchcraft—because it’s that powerful. Sexual energy is quite literally the seed of life.
We’re often conditioned with all of these weird ideas around sexuality and what it means to be sexually awakened in order to prevent us from exploring and mastering the dynamic force behind it all.
Sexual energy is a part of your natural, pure and cosmic life force. There’s nothing innately sinister or crude about it. It’s an energy that runs through us all, and it’s an important and central part of your chakra system and the meridians.
Being sexually awakened simply involves understanding this energy running within you, and being able to use it for your own benefit and well-being. It doesn’t mean you’re running around giving out free hand jobs for fun (although it might mean that—if that’s your thing).
2. Learn About Your Sex Organs And Reproductive System
Understanding your sexual and reproductive system is a massive part of sexual empowerment and sexual awakening. It is through this conscious awareness that you are able to connect to your sexual energy and the chakras.
Many adults don’t understand or know our sexual and reproductive organs, which contributes to the numbing and denial of our sexual selves. Knowing your body is extremely empowering, and helps to connect you to your sexual power.
What are the names of different parts of your sexual anatomy? Where are the pieces of the anatomy located? And how about the opposite sex too?
3. Masturbate
As a certified holistic relationship and sex educator and tantra yoga teacher, I am a massive advocate of masturbation. I truly feel that it’s a huge part of intimately getting to know yourself.
I also find it really interesting that ‘jerk’ and ‘wanker’ are regarded as insults in the American and British English vernacular. Which possibly says a lot about our underlying feelings about masturbation in common culture and society. Why would being a masturbator be a bad thing?
Contrary to popular belief, touching yourself, and enjoying the process isn’t vulgar or something to be ashamed of. Masturbating, sexual curiosity, and touching yourself are natural acts, and you can learn a lot from the experience.
Masturbation allows you to learn about your own body and the different parts of your sexual anatomy. It teaches you what you do and don’t like which in turn enhances your sexual experiences and sexual satisfaction with other people too.
You can use different sex toys, use your hands, vary the different types of touch you experience, and experiment with different sensations, pressure, and speed of touch too.
Knowing your body is extremely sexually liberating. Go ahead—be a ‘wanker’.
4. Journal About Sex
Journalling about sex and your sexual identity is a great way to locate hidden thoughts or underlying feelings that you hold about sex. You’ll undercover all the liberating and disempowering ideas about your sexual self that you are storing, and perhaps ignoring.
When journaling you can specifically unpack your ideas about sex, any points of shame, sources of sexual trauma, or embarrassment, and turn-offs. You can also delve deeper into your fantasies, turn-ons, and sexual identity strengths.
We pick up a lot of hidden conditioning about sex from culture, religion, and the media. In British vernacular, slang terms such as ‘wanker’ and ‘tosser’ are used as derogatory insults to call someone an idiot—and the terms simultaneously describe someone that masturbates. Little nuances like this can actually have a huge influence on our thoughts and feelings.
British vernacular using masturbation as an insult and associating it with calling someone ‘unpleasant and stupid’ says a lot about our current cultural attitude toward sex—doesn’t it?
How much of this disempowering conditioning and shame are you harbouring from your environment and life experience?
5. Make A Sex-Based Vision Board
Vision boards are a great fun way to explore your sex life and factors that can affect your sexual activity. Pinterest is a cool tool to use to make different boards and collect different ideas that can help you understand yourself better combined with inspiring you.
What sparks your sexual interest? You can highlight different personal aphrodisiacs on one board, lingerie that interests you on another, sex toys you might like to try on another and even create a board for sex positions you’d like to try—the possibilities are endless and the list goes on!
You can explore different fantasies that might help to deepen your sexual intimacy with your sexual partner, and the boards can create an effective starting point for open communication on your sexual health and sex life.
Vision boards help to get your creative juices flowing which is great for tapping into your sexual energy and power.
6. Practice Feminine Energy Dominant Arts
Certain arts help to get feminine (also known as lunar) energy flowing. Creative arts are really great at getting you into a lunar energy (or feminine energy) flow. There are many different aspects to lunar and feminine energy, but it is often very creative, sensual, and playful.
What are your hobbies? Do you like painting, singing, verbally reciting poetry, gardening or any type of creative crafts? How about dancing? Dancing and connecting to the hips is a great way to get your lunar energy flowing and connecting to the svadhistana chakra, also known as the sacral chakra.
Pole dancing, belly dancing, and hula hoop are all great practices to connect to the svadhistana chakra which is responsible for creativity and sexuality.
7. Take A Course On Sexual Enlightenment
Taking a course on sexual awakening with a certified sex educator can help to guide your sexual enlightenment.
A course that is specifically designed to connect you to your sensual and sexual self is going to take the mystery out of the process, and you’ll be in the capable hands of an experienced sex educator who has guided others in the process too.
Of course, you can go it alone, but investing in a course is going to save you a lot of time, combined with providing you support, expertise, accountability, and a like-minded authentic community.
8. Experiment With Different Sexual Experiences
A great way to activate your sexual energy is by playing and experiencing it in different forms! Experimenting with different sexual experiences can be a really effective way to get your creative sexual juices flowing.
Perhaps you’ve not fully explored oral sex or you want to buy a sex toy? Or maybe there is a kink that you would like to try?
The world is your oyster here—what are your fantasies? Are there any you would consider actually trying?
9. Connect To Your Breath And Sound
Utilizing your breath and sound during sexual stimulation and sexual arousal can help you to learn how to channel your sexual energy. The breath is a very powerful part of our energetic anatomy and can facilitate the channelling of your energy.
In yoga and ayurveda, ‘breath work’ or traditional tantra yoga breathing exercises are known as pranayama. And pranayama is an integral part of channelling your energy (also known as prana) through your chakra and energy system. Sound is also linked to sexual energy too.
Did you know that the voice box is said to be linked to the vagina? If you’d like to learn more about the voice and vagina connection then you can check out my blog article here.
There are remarkable similarities and an intimate connection between the voicebox and the vagina such as their appearance and function. And they’re also linked by the vagus nerve which is one of the most important nerves in the human body.
Opening and activating your voicebox can help you to open and connect with your vagina and sexual energy. Both breathwork and sound can be great tools in vocal-vaginal connection work.

10. Accept Your Body
Self-acceptance is a massive part of sexual awakening. But, self-acceptance can be a challenging hurdle for many of us. So if you often struggle with loving the way you look—please know that you’re not alone!
There are a variety of different techniques that you can work with to delve into self-acceptance which helps to unlock self-confidence and enhance self-love.
Mirror work, having a sensual photo shoot, sexy lingerie, affirmations, a healthy diet, and regular exercise can all enhance self-acceptance and self-love.
Adorning yourself with different pieces of jewellery or clothing and worshipping your body is also a unique but fun self-acceptance practice.
Try working on self-care that has a central focus on loving your body. Perhaps you might even be called to switch up some of your usual routines in terms of skincare, hair care, beauty regimes and fashion style. Is there something that you’ve been wanting to try for ages, but have been too scared to? Do the thing!
Explore being creative with your style and self-care, whilst being mindfully compassionate and loving towards yourself too.
Self-acceptance can also travel further than skin deep, which is something you may want to consider. Do you lovingly accept your sexual identity? Are there parts of yourself that you’re ashamed of? Journaling might be a key practice to help you unlock where your need for self-acceptance lies.
11. Non-Sexual Self-Massage
Non-sexual self-massage is a great tool that gets you to explore, awaken, and accept a variety of different things—especially sensations and your body.
Self-massage is a sensual practice where you get to explore touch and your body, which can help you to accept yourself whilst exploring your sensual preferences too.
What touch do you like? And what don’t you like? What parts of your body really soak up the attention? And which are sensitive? Which parts of your body don’t feel good to touch?
A good sensual massage helps you to be mindful of all the different parts of your body, along with the different sensations of touch.
If parts of your body have been neglected or feel numb then self-massage can be a safe way to explore what works for you and to dismantle blocks to your sexual awakening.
The physical body is a huge part of sexual awakening and the ways in which you can facilitate the mindful connection to your body extends way beyond just the bedroom.
12. Meditate On Your Sex Organs And Reproductive System
If you’re new on your sexual awakening journey then you may be experiencing numbness or total disassociation from your sexual organs and reproductive system. This can sometimes be a result of things like conditioning and societal shame or trauma.
Meditating on your sexual organs and reproductive system is not only an important and powerful key practice but it can be a vital part of reclaiming your body.
Meditating on your sexual and reproductive system helps you to reconnect to parts of yourself that you may have unconsciously ignored, numbed, or shut yourself off from.
Asides from overcoming numbness or trauma—meditation and visualisation on your sex organs and reproductive system are key practices in learning how to channel your sexual energy.
13. Remove Goals And Enjoy The Present Moment
A great tip for sexual awakening, and for tantric sex is to be present in the moment and remove goals.
Striving for penetration or orgasm during sexual intercourse or sexual intimacy with yourself or a partner can cause stress, lower libido, and anxiety.
If you’re prone to a low libido then practising meditation, presence, and the removal of goals could prove to be really helpful for you.
How Do You Tap Into Feminine Sexual Energy?
You can use a variety of different practices—especially certain creative arts—such as gardening, singing, dancing, painting, reciting poetry, and creative crafts to tap into your feminine energy.
If you’re not used to tapping into your feminine sexual energy, or lunar energy, then it might require some practice for you to drop into this part of yourself.
Practising things that allow you to be creative are really great ways to learn how to get into your feminine flow state, combined with learning what feminine energy feels like. And after time and practice, you’ll be able to tap into those parts of yourself on cue.
Being in connection and channelling your feminine sexual energy is a wonderfully empowering experience. You can use this energy for manifestation and abundance in order to live with more fulfilment and authenticity.
