Ways To Develop Trust In The Bedroom

5 Great Ways To Develop Trust In The Bedroom

  • 24 December 2023

Developing trust in the bedroom with your partner is vital for vulnerability—which also leads to confident sexual exploration!

Whether you’re in a new relationship, romantic relationship, or sexual relationship, you’ll find that deep trust is a central aspect of giving and receiving pleasure.

If you’re low on trust, or your trust has been broken then these tips are a great place to start rebuilding your trust with your intimate partner…

Easy Ways To Create Trust In The Bedroom

1. Create Boundaries

Creating boundaries and ensuring that you communicate, respect, and uphold them is really important.

And you might find that you need to start off at ‘Step 1’ of simply working out what you need your boundaries to be…

What do you and don’t you like? What are you willing to explore? What are you not interested in exploring?

We rely on respecting boundaries to create a safe space—and having a safe space allows you to explore your sexuality without the worry of judgement, fear, disrespect, or rejection.

2. Use Safe Words

Using safe words is a great way to explore role play, but also just communicate and agree on boundaries.

Mutual safety is a vital aspect of holding a healthy relationship with someone emotionally, physically, or sexually.

Even if you don’t use your safe word, it makes you both feel heard, seen and cared for—because you both want the other to feel happy, respected, and honoured in your shared experience.

3. Take Small Steps

We are all so different, and so is our approach to trust. For some, trust can be easily given, and easily broken too. And for others, it can take time to build, or even longer to rebuild.

It’s important to be patient with yourself and with your partner, especially if you’ve encountered previous relationship problems. Evaluate where you are and trust that with consistent love, patient dedication, and time—your trust will flourish, deepen, and strengthen.

Little steps over a long time, can take you a long distance. There is a lot of power in consistency.

4. Be Honest And Vulnerable

A massive part of learning to be honest and vulnerable is effective communication. At the root of all fulfilling relationships and passionate sex are two people who are able to be honest and vulnerable with each other through open communication.

If communication isn’t your strong point, then developing this skill is going to be great for your partnership, and it’s going to enhance your sexual experiences too.

Emotional safety can be quite an important aspect of having a juicy sex life and deep intimacy, so take the time to nourish emotional intimacy in order for sexual intimacy to flourish.

If there are trust issues in your relationship you may need to build trust or focus on rebuilding trust if betrayal has occurred. Some good trust building activities can help to develop your partnership into a trusting relationship.

5. Evaluate What You Both Need

It’s important to be attentive to your partners’ needs, and what you both need might be completely different. Taking the time to analyse each other’s needs is really vital, and furthermore, you need to accept, support, and respect each other’s needs too.

If there has been an experience of betrayal through physical infidelity or emotional cheating, then your needs will be very different as individuals.

Quite often we tend to focus on our own needs but emotional connection requires us to build mutual respect and empathy for each other.

An intimacy retreat for couples can be a great way to build trust and restore a healthy relationship, check out my blog article here for more benefits of intimacy retreats for couples.

6. Read Your Partner’s Body Language

Reading your partner’s body language is a great way to develop deep trust. Your partner might not always find it easy to communicate how they feel. They might think that there is an expectation of them, and expectations can sometimes overshadow honesty.

Be observant of body language which might give tell-tale signs of your partner’s feelings. If you notice something might be off, then you can double-check if they’re feeling comfortable, or if they’d like to stop or do something different.

Conclusion

Irrespective of why you’re building trust, it’s a great practice for all sexual partners and companions. Broken trust that is transformed into mutual trust can create a strong foundation for a healthy sexual relationship and passionate sexual desire.

But, even if you’re already in a loving committed partnership and you want to build a deeper level of psychological safety, closeness, and intimacy then you’ll still find a lot of power in these tips too.
