New Moon Rituals For Manifesting Your Goals

6 Simple New Moon Rituals For Manifesting Your Goals And Setting Intentions

  • 24 December 2023

Are you curious about how you can use the new moon to manifest your goals?

The lunar cycle has been used in sacred rituals for centuries, and you don’t need fancy props or expensive herbs to benefit from a sacred new moon ritual!

In this article, we take a look at some easy new moon rituals that you can do from the comfort of your own home to help you set intentions and manifest your goals.

What Moon Phase Is Best For Manifesting Your Goals?

The best moon phase to manifest and set new intentions is the new moon. The new moon is the perfect time to set new intentions and goals because it symbolizes the start of a new lunar cycle.

As the new moon grows into the full moon, it’s a great time to use moon energy in your new moon ritual to create and nurture new beginnings in your own life too.

Much in the same way that the new moon appears to grow and get bigger, the energy you cultivate in your new moon ritual builds traction and becomes more powerful too.

Whereas, if you want to release energy and heal then full moon rituals are perfect for shifting stagnant energy. If you’d like to learn more about full moon rituals for healing and letting go then check out my blog post here.

The Four Major Moon Phases Are:

  • New moon
  • First-quarter
  • Full moon
  • Last-quarter.

In between these four major moon phases, there are another four minor phases.

In the minor phases, the moon either appears as a crescent which looks like a semi-circle. Or ‘gibbous’ which looks like an off-shaped circle.

The moon is described as ‘waxing’ when it appears to get bigger (from the new moon to the full moon). And is described as ‘waning’ when it appears to get smaller (from the full moon to the new moon).

6 New Moon Rituals For Setting Intentions And Abundance

There are many different ways you can perform a ritual—it really depends on how complicated or easy you would like it to be.

Personally, I love to do more intricate moon cycle rituals—but sometimes I just want something quick and simple because it is easier!

All being said and done, the truth is—it doesn’t really matter how simple or fancy your ritual is. What matters most is your intention, focus and mindfulness during the ritual itself. And sometimes, the most simple of ceremonies can be the most powerful.

If you need some guidance, here is an outline for a really basic ritual. And if this is a little too intricate for you, you can totally just do the ‘body’ of the ritual (such as journaling) on its own instead.

Your ritual is about you. It’s your time to connect with higher consciousness and Divine energy. So, make your ritual as simple or as elaborate as you feel like—let your intuition guide you.

General Outline For A Quick Sacred Ritual:

Element Symbolic Tools

You will need to represent the elements; earth, air, fire, water and Spirit.

I tend to use:

  • A crystal or rock and a bowl of salt (earth)
  • Incense (air)
  • Candle (fire)
  • Kitchen tap water with salt, seawater, or river water with salt (sacred water)
  • A deity statue (spirit)

*Pro-tip: You can use palo santo or sage – but it’s not necessary and much cheaper to use incense…

Cleansing, Charging And Protection

It’s best to perform your sacred ritual in a quiet space, where you won’t be disturbed (or put into a psychiatric hospital).

  1. It’s common to take a ritual bath before performing a ceremony and to also physically cleanse the ritual space with a broom.

  2. You can use a compass app on your phone to work out the cardinal points of north, east, south and west.

  3. Next, place your elemental symbols in their correct cardinal direction. I tend to keep my diety in the centre with me.
  • Crystals and bowl of salt (earth) = North
  • Incense (air) = East
  • Candle (fire) = South
  • Sacred water (water) = West
  • Deity (Spirit) = centre
  1. Take each element symbol, and walk around the circle from north clockwise (north, east, south, west). And as you walk around the circle, visualise the cleansing of the space, and ask for the guardians of the element you are holding to protect the space.

So start with the salt, and sprinkle this in a circle from north to east, south and west. And finish by placing the salt back in the north position.

And do the same for each other element. Next comes the incense, then the candle, then the sacred water.

As you walk with your sacred water, sprinkle it around the boundary of the circle and visualise a protective white light guarding your circle. The light comes up from mother earth and extends far into the sky.

  1. Once your sacred space is open, you can perform the body of your ritual inside the sacred circle.
  1. When you are finished with the body of your ritual you can then close your sacred space. Walk anti-clockwise and take each element from west to south, east to north. And thank the guardians of each element for their help, protection and blessing in your ritual.
  1. Offer the water and salt back to the earth. Put your ritual tools back onto your altar, and rest!

Ritual Body Ideas

Here are some ideas for the main body of your sacred ceremony. So you would perform these in the middle of your ceremony inside your sacred space. But, there are in fact, a million different ritual body ideas that you can do—so be creative, and do what feels right for you!

1. Moon Journaling

Writing is a great way to call in new energy from the universe. If you’re not sure where to start then perhaps you’ll want to use new moon journal prompts. Or you can tailor your journaling however it works best to set your intentions.

For example, you can write down your goals, and the step-by-step action’s that you need to take, along with defining an overall strategy.

If you can, use a pen and paper to physically write down your goals, action steps, and strategy. Writing is a powerful form of spell-casting within itself and it allows you to set really clear intentions.

2. Vision Board, Painting And Drawing

Creating a vision board is a really powerful way to envision your goals. To create your vision board you could use Pinterest, magazine cutouts, or even draw your goals.

Painting and drawing are both potent ways to infuse your ritual with energy, and they allow you to be really specific with your desires. Being specific with your vision, intentions, and requests is really important to ensure that you attract your goals with precision.

3. Planting A Flower Or Herb

Planting flowers, herbs, or gardening is a great way to enhance your magic and intention-setting ritual by using the power of nature.

Simply tune in to the frequency of love as you plant new seeds, or nurture your growing plants.

Focus on the present moment, and ask mother earth to lend her power to your magic. And ask for help in reaching your goal.

After tending to your plants, fill your thoughts with your intentions and focus on your goals.

4. Visualisation Meditation

Meditation is a great practice for everyday life. But it’s also a potent tool to help enhance your ritual and intentions.

Start by focusing on your breath, and tune in to your senses and what you are feeling. Next, draw your awareness to your emotions, and allow your body to fill with a sense of abundance, joy, and love.

Intentionally focus on flooding your body with feelings of love and gratitude. And then focus on your goal, and visualise your journey. Visualise step-by-step how you would get to your goal, and your desired outcome.

Or if you prefer, you can use a guided meditation if you can find one that suit’s your exact needs.

5. Affirmation Chanting

New moon affirmations and chanting are an easy way to tune into your goals. Simply write down your intentions and goals and then repeat them out loud.

You can also use essential oils or different crystals to infuse your affirmations and chanting with a more powerful vibration to increase your abundance.

Just use an oil burner to fill your sacred circle with the aroma and essential oil of your choice. Sit with your crystals in front of you and close your eyes. Focus on your new moon intention and feel your heart centre opening. Recite your intention-setting affirmations until you feel the ceremony is complete.

6. Ritual Yoga

Yoga is a powerful spiritual practice and can be used within the ceremony setting if your sacred space is big enough.

You can put together a sequence of yoga postures that are specifically designed to enhance your intentions by working with your chakras and energetic body. The yoga poses you choose should depend on your ritual intention.
