18 Powerful Tips For Female Empowerment | Top Ways To Empower Yourself

  • 24 December 2023

Are looking for different ways that you can empower yourself as a woman? If so, this article is for you!

In this article, we take a look at some great ways that you can explore female empowerment to strengthen your personal development.

If you’d like to learn more about what female empowerment is and some of the different types of women’s empowerment, then you can check out my blog article here.

How Do I Empower Myself As A Woman?

Feeling empowered is so vital for confidence and good mental health, but how do we implement women’s empowerment?

Here are some easy steps to help you to reinstate your personal empowerment and sense of self:

1) Connect To Your Sexuality

  • Empower Yourself Sexually

One of the ways in which you might find yourself disempowered is through your sexuality. Women are really commonly controlled and judged with regard to their sexuality and sexual self-expression.

You might experience confusion, shame, embarrassment, disconnection, numbness, or even trauma in relation to your sexual identity and sexual self. Learning about your sexuality, and discovering your sexual identity is a really powerful way to begin your self-empowerment journey.

If you’d like some tips on sexual awakening for women then you can check out my blog post here.

2) Learn About Your Menstrual Cycle

  • Understand Your Inner Seasons

There is a lot of negative conditioning surrounding menstruation, which may be due to the fact that it’s such a powerful and life-giving natural process. It’s funny how we often fear things which are powerful, isn’t it?

If you feel called to, you can begin the journey of reconnecting to your cyclical nature and your menstrual cycle.

Understanding your body, mind, and emotions through the lens of your menstruation can often be very helpful in feeling empowered.

Dismantling the negative conditioning and beliefs that are perpetuated by mainstream society around sexuality and menstruation are really great ways to step back into your own power.

If you’d like more tips on understanding your menstrual cycle and inner seasons you can check out my blog post here.

3) Build Healthy Relationships With Others

  • Dismantle Toxic Ancestral Cycles

Creating and being a part of healthy relationships with yourself and with others is such a beautiful part of self-empowerment. Due to a variety of different reasons we often find ourselves lacking good role models in society for healthy functioning relationships.

If you’ve found yourself in toxic familial relationships which also affect your friendships and romantic partnerships, remember that it doesn’t have to be this way!

You can be the change you wish to experience. Begin your journey of learning how to build better communication skills so that you can relate to others with a deeper sense of love, compassion, honesty, trust and authenticity.

Learning how to have healthy relationships with others and ending toxic cycles of behaviour from your ancestral lineage is a really powerful form of self-empowerment, and benefits not only you but society, and those who come after you in your lineage.

If you want to learn more about the benefits of intimacy retreats for couples to deepen your romantic connection with your partner, you can check out my blog article here.

4) Do Not Stop Learning

  • Find Your Soul Mission

Take the course. Read the book. Go to the seminar.

What inspires you? What were you born to do? What makes your heart melt with loving excitement?

Take the reigns and choose your path—engage in your personal empowerment with pride.

Where can you serve yourself, and therefore the world, from a place of deep-rooted fire and passion?

The world needs you—you are important and your role makes a difference.

5) Learn About Hierarchy And Power Balances

  • Help To Dismantle Oppressive Systems And Beliefs

There are a variety of different systems, some of which are really helpful, and others which are stifling and disempowering.

Learning about gender discrimination, gender inequality and the different ways in which women are oppressed helps to deconstruct such unhelpful systems, habits, cultures, thoughts, and beliefs.

Do your bit in your community to help create better ways of relating, thinking, and behaving whilst implementing equal rights.

6) Be An Active Member Of Society

  • Define Your Intuitive Core Values And Actively Advocate For Them, Along With Advocating For Others

What are your moral ethics and where do you stand on issues? Are you speaking and advocating where possible?

It can sometimes feel draining to advocate, especially if you’re already busy, overwhelmed, or burnt out by the noise of society. But it is worth considering the notion that within empowerment is activism, and within activism is empowerment.

And on top of that—there are so many different ways you can engage in activism for reform too! Not all of which are as intensive as you might initially think…

For example, one of the easiest ways to engage in reform, is by becoming an expert in your niche field and reforming your industry from the inside out—or even from the inside of your local community.

In your career or community—what do you see? Where can you advocate for improvement? How can you help yourself and others to rise?

As one woman it’s impossible to know everything about everything, or even to change systems alone. But if everyone focused on their own field of expertise, and sought to reform what they could within their own niches, industries, or communities—just imagine the change that could be created!

7) Choose Your Circle Wisely

  • Check Your Circle And Surround Yourself With Cultured Education And Progressive Inspiration—Especially On Social Media

Be selective about the media you are consuming—whether that is through social media, traditional forms of printed media, TV, or radio.

Media and different forms of information sharing can be really powerful, inspiring, and educational, but they can also be toxic, draining, destructive and overwhelmingly negative for personal development.

So, check your circle and be selective about what and who you let into your sacred space. What are you looking at? Who are you surrounded by? What is feeding your brain and sense of self?

Is your social media feed productive? Is it supportive? Is it inspiring? Is it educational? Is it inclusive?

Mindfully choose to follow and support powerful women and content creators who are educating and advocating for valuable personal development. Brené Brown, Glennon Doyle, Michelle Obama, and Jen Sincero are good examples of some popular and positive self-development advocates and thought leaders.

Notice how you feel when you’re on your social media—does your feed lift and elevate you? Or does it make you feel heavy and stifled?

Does your social media feed serve you? Or could you spend that time reading an empowering book instead?

8) Financial Self Sufficiency

  • Self Sufficiency Provides Safety

The odds are often stacked against women, from glass ceilings to unequal pay and then there’s also a variety of policies that don’t support mothers in raising families too.

Self-sufficiency and financial freedom provide empowerment to women, especially mothers because they have to rely as little as possible on systems or structures which don’t have their best interests at heart.

Educating yourself on entrepreneurship could provide you with some great ideas that allow you to turn your passion into a profitable and successful business.

Becoming a successful entrepreneur and business owner isn’t necessarily easy, however, it is definitely worth it! Ask yourself what your ideal life looks like—trust yourself, study, take action, and go create it!

9) Practice Self-Empowerment Exercises

  • Unlearn And Relearn

It’s really important to teach young girls self-empowerment skills and self-empowerment exercises, as they’re a great aid to counteract any unhelpful mindsets and beliefs that women absorb from society. Not only that—but we need to practice self-empowerment exercises as grown women too!

Self-empowerment exercises such as positive self-talk, positive affirmations, and good mental health care skills are good tools to support your success and liberation.

Positive self-talk can help to overcome negative body image, low self-esteem, poor confidence, negative thoughts, and unnecessary comparison.

Create your own tailored self-empowerment guide, which includes all of the things you need to practice and keep an eye on. For example, if you notice that you tend to get insecure about your body, you can create practices to enhance and strengthen your self-worth and self-esteem.

10) Cultivate A Spiritual Practice And Trust Indigenous Wisdom

  • Connect To Your Ancestors, Your Lineage, Your Roots

Spiritual practice, women-centred yoga and ancestral wisdom are integral to female empowerment. The invitation is to come back to your roots, back to the earth and back to your innate wisdom.

If it feels good, you can connect to spiritual practices such as yoga, meditation, and the unique spiritual practices of your cultural lineage, which can help to provide immense wisdom and strength.

Decrease your stress by spending time in nature, it’ll help you to reconnect to this powerful energy that resides within you.

If you’d like some inspiration on how to awaken your inner power then you can check out my blog article here.

And I also have some handy blog articles on yoga too. Here is my article on using yoga for female empowerment which explains how you can use yoga to increase your self-esteem and self-empowerment.

Or you can check out this article that explains what women-centred yoga is. Women-centred yoga is a really great way to help balance hormones, understand your body, and create a better relationship with your Divine femininity through holistic health and wellness for women!

11) Support Other Amazing Women And Those Who Are Oppressed

  • Build A Strong Community And Support Others

Empowerment is not a one-woman job.

“The most common use of the term “empowerment” refers to increasing the power of the low-power group, so that it more nearly equals the power of the high-power group”—Bhadra, 2001

Empowerment involves those with power and authority decentralising themselves and sharing power with those who are deprived of power and privilege.

Building a like-minded supportive community is often pivotal to empowerment and success, because an empowered woman empowers women.

Can you better support the amazing women in your community? What about those considered hard to reach? Contemplate intersectional feminism and the importance of ensuring all women are supported…

12) Spread Awareness And Teach

  • Be A Source Of Inspiration And Exert Your Ability To Create Positive Change

Taking personal accountability and responsibility for your experiences can help to create real positive change. If you focus on doing what you can, this is going to massively help the collective.

If we all do a little bit more to learn about gender equality, spread awareness—and most importantly—implement action for positive change we can really make some massive waves!

13) Take Back Your Control With Mindfulness

  • Self Reflect And Self Coach

Yoga and meditation are spiritual practices that provide a variety of benefits from emotional and physical to mental health.

Mindfulness and awareness allow you to engage in personal accountability and responsibility. And they also help you to self-develop into your most powerful and authentic self.

14) Shamelessly Indulge In Self Care

  • Look After Yourself And Make Mindful Lifestyle Choices To Balance Activism And Advocating For Positive Change

Self-care is an integral aspect of self-empowerment. Because, unless you are healthy and balanced, you are unable to help yourself or others.

Look after yourself by leading a healthy lifestyle, eating a nutritious diet, sleeping well, and finding an exercise routine that suits you. Taking care of yourself holistically helps to ensure that you’re strong in body, mind and spirit.

Check in with yourself and consider your work-life balance. Do you need to adjust it in order to maintain your holistic health? Are you maintaining a sustainable and healthy balance between work and play?

15) Set Some Boundaries And Assert Them

  • Advocate For Your Needs

Define your boundaries, and do not be hesitant about asserting them. Develop a really positive mindset around your boundaries and self-care by understanding that they are vital for your empowerment.

You are well within your rights to put yourself first, whenever you need to. And part of this is learning to say—NO!

Furthermore, if you find yourself feeling guilty or shame for saying ‘no’ and advocating for your own needs and rights, take the opportunity to delve deeper into the work to dismantle that.

16) Learn Your Strengths And Weaknesses

  • Know Your Skill Set

The practice of mindfulness allows you to harness your strengths and work around your weaknesses. Communities thrive when we are all playing to our strengths and supporting each other through our weaknesses!

17) Assert Your Authority

  • Take Leadership, Take Accountability, Take Responsibility

Take leadership of your own vessel! You are in the driver’s seat of your own life, and you have choices. If you see something, say something.

Remember that you’re powerful and that you can make a huge difference in people’s lives.

Whether you or someone else, are the victim—try not to allow cases of oppression, sexism, racism, abuse or exploitation to go ignored. *This need to be considered on a case-by-case basis, because sometimes you may find yourself in danger. Always consider the safety of yourself and others before taking cautious and appropriate action.

18) Allow Yourself To Grow And Change

  • Love Your Beauty And Your Flaws

Anxiety, judgement, criticism and the fear of failing can prevent you from growing. So learn to allow yourself to make mistakes in life, and forgive yourself for them!

Making mistakes is an integral part of life, self-empowerment, and self-development.

Initiate your own happiness and free yourself by allowing yourself to learn, grow, improve, and change.

Wow, I will be honest and overlook a lot of these empowerment practices. I have been working on being more of an active member of my society in a bigger way – thinking of my work as a movement and thinking of a bigger picture. This was very helpful, thank you!
