Spiritual Awakening And Healing

14 Easy Tips For Spiritual Awakening And Healing To Enhance Your Life

  • 24 December 2023

Going through a variety of different stages of evolution during your life is important because it allows you to up-level and live with more happiness and fulfilment—but that doesn’t always mean it’s easy. In fact, periods of spiritual growth can often come with a lot of discomfort and uncertainty.

If you want some great tips to support and enhance your spiritual awakening and healing then keep reading, because this article is for you.

In this article, we explain some easy tips to help you on your self-development, spiritual awakening process and healing journey.

The Best Tips For Spiritual Awakening And Healing

Here are some of my top tips to support your spiritual health, nurture your spiritual gifts, and enhance your spiritual practice.

1. Journaling

Journaling and self-reflection are great ways to support your spiritual development. It might sound simple, but they’re highly effective practices.

Journaling allows you to identify your strengths, weaknesses, challenges, areas for improvement and things you need to work on.

Journaling can help you to evaluate your self-development with a level of objectivity—which is really important for self-growth.

Try to make sure that your self-analysis is balanced. Are you overly critical? Or overly lenient on yourself? Can you find a middle path of being proud of yourself for your achievements, whilst also lovingly encouraging yourself to improve and overcome obstacles?

If it resonates then you can create your very own full moon journaling ritual for healing and release, if you’d like more tips then be sure to check out my blog article here.

2. Resolving Trauma

Resolving trauma is a massive part of spiritual development and healing, and it naturally arrives along the spiritual path when you’re ready.

As a spiritual seeker, you will ultimately find yourself facing your trauma and wounds whilst on the journey to your true self.

Life isn’t always easy, but it is important to find acceptance and understanding for the worldly experiences of your soul. Acceptance allows you to come to a resolution. It allows you to forgive and let go of the experience.

Detachment is a central part of spiritual awakening, and this also pertains to your identity and trauma.

Has your ego attached itself to the identity that comes with your trauma? Are you fixated on the past and holding on to your trauma as a part of your identity?

Or are you ready to heal your wounds with loving kindness and forgiveness, and detach from the past?

This isn’t to minimise or belittle your trauma but rather to remove its power so that you can continue on your spiritual journey—as opposed to being stuck in the past or a sense of self-identity that doesn’t serve your highest self.

3. Goal Setting

Goal setting is a great habit to help you self-develop. Asides from the path of spiritual development, the majority of us have responsibilities—such as paying bills.

In many spiritual circles, striving for goals and financial gain is often shunned in the name of ‘detachment’—which is a misinterpretation of what detachment means.

In terms of your spiritual growth, it’s actually really important for your baseline needs to be met so that you have the time, safety, and space to work on your spiritual development.

If your baseline needs aren’t being met, you simply won’t have the proper environment or energy to work on your spiritual path.

In general, at the bare minimum, you’ll need a safe and stable environment to live in, and some level of security that you’ll have access to your required amenities for survival. You’ll need a nutritious diet, love, and a general sense of overall happiness too.

Are these being met in your life? Or does one of these areas need to be developed?

Setting goals and taking action to ensure that you’re living a happy, healthy, and abundant life helps you to move along your life path with a clear guideline of direction and stability—and this in turn will help your spiritual journey to flourish.

In Sanskrit, tapas is often translated as meaning ‘discipline’. And many spiritual practices involve a high degree of tapas (discipline). Setting and achieving goals in your life overall will help you to maintain the high level of discipline and dedication that the path of spirituality requires.

4. Explore Different Mindful Practices

Self-awareness is the foundation of self-development. Without self-awareness, there is no self-development.

It’s important to explore different mindfulness practices that help you to expand your conscious awareness and mindfulness because this is going to be a central pillar of your spiritual journey.

If you’re new to meditation or don’t have a strong meditation practice then you might find guided meditation a great place to start.

In a guided meditation the spiritual coach talks you through the process and leads you into an expanded state of awareness. Their experience in the process can help to make meditation way more accessible for you.

In Sanskrit, the control of the senses and sense withdrawal (pratyāhāra), focused concentration (dhāraṇā), and meditation (dhyāna) are key vehicles in the spiritual journey towards liberation and enlightenment (samadhi).

5. Challenge Your Own Belief Systems And Habits During Shadow Work

This can be a tricky topic if you have experienced certain types of trauma or abuse. If you’ve experienced certain types of abuse you may need extra guidance around this from an experienced professional. Especially if you have been led to doubt yourself in a way that is harmful to your sense of self and self-regulation.

However, if you feel confident to approach this alone, then challenging your own belief systems and habits during shadow work can be really helpful.

The ego often likes to deceive you in order to keep you from transcending, because during your process of spiritual awakening and transcendence, your ego loses control and dissolves until there is nothing left of it.

The ego likes to maintain your lower consciousness because, without it, it doesn’t survive!

This means you may be harbouring mindsets, limiting beliefs, habits, addictions, actions, or emotions which don’t serve you. Sometimes you can self-reflect and locate these limiting thoughts, actions, attitudes or emotions—but not always.

This spiritual activity involves a lot of self-awareness and sometimes quite brutal and uncomfortable honesty and objectivity with yourself. You can do this alone, but it often helps to do this with a spiritual teacher or trusted friend so that they can check your blind spots for you.

In general, you want to be evaluating all the parts of your identity, thoughts, actions, beliefs, speech, and emotions to check if they all serve your highest good and spiritual development.

6. Clean Living And A Nutritious Diet

Having a good diet full of nutritious food is really important for your spiritual development because what you put into your body has an effect on how you feel, your energy levels, your thoughts, and your hormones.

Set yourself up with a strong foundation to self-develop from, with a nutritious, clean, and bountiful diet that supports your overall health and wellness.

If you’re not looking after your body properly, you won’t have the energy or mental space to embark on your spiritual fitness.

In Sanskrit, ahiṃsā means nonviolence. This can be translated in a number of ways, and it pertains to all sentient living beings, including yourself.

Ahiṃsā, or the principle of nonviolence, means that you must avoid harming where possible, through action, speech, or thought.

In terms of your diet, regular exercise, and sleep—this can be regarded as regularly exercising, along with eating and sleeping well to avoid harming your body, mind, and soul.

7. Sleep Well And Get Ample Rest

Getting a good night’s sleep is vital for your spiritual empowerment, as is taking rest when you need it. Your brain performs vital restoration functions when you sleep, and a good night’s sleep helps to enhance your overall health and wellness. Rest is similarly vital for overall physical well-being and mental health too.

In order to work on your spiritual development, you need to be performing at your optimum capacity, so finding balance in your life, taking good rest when you need it, and getting proper sleep is key.

8. Cleanse Your Energetic Channels

Have you heard of chakras? A chakra is an energy centre within the body, that is connected to other chakras (energy centres) via a set of energy channels and pathways known as nadis.

You can work on your energy body and energy channels in a variety of different ways. Exercise, yoga, massage, and breathwork are all really great ways to cleanse your energy channels and encourage a good balance of energy. This gets them performing at their optimum capacity and supports your spiritual growth.

In general, regular exercise is really important for the same reasons as a good diet and sleep, but yoga in particular is a great tool for your physical health and spiritual development.

Āsana means posture in Sanskrit, and prāṇāyāma means extension of the vital life force. In yoga, you are able to cleanse and strengthen your chakras and energetic channels, known as nāḍī, through āsana and prāṇāyāma practice.

9. Study

Svādhyāya means self-study in Sanskrit. It can be translated in a number of ways such as the study of the self through observation and witnessing during meditation, or the study of the self through sacred scriptures.

As a modern-day spiritual seeker, you can expand on svādhyāya by consuming nutritious content across the board.

What are you watching on TV and YouTube? What Podcasts are you listening to? What books are you reading? What courses are you taking?

Are you filling your mind with useless content that serves your lower consciousness and the ego?

Or are you mindfully consuming content that serves the awakening of your higher consciousness?

As mentioned earlier; journaling, self-reflection, and shadow work are other ways that you can embark on self-study too.

10. Go Inwards

Pratyāhāra means to draw the senses inwards. In general, this is correlated to mindfulness and meditation practice—but it can extend beyond that too.

For example, with comparison and being kinder to yourself (ahiṃsā). Try to compare yourself to others less, by tuning out from the noise, drawing your focus inwards to your own journey and building inner peace through stillness, silence, and meditation.

11. Silent Retreats

Silent retreats are a great way to improve your ability to be mindful and meditate. You can either make your own silent retreats at home, or you can book a silent retreat such as Vipassana.

Regular bouts of silence are great to help you observe your mind. They allow you to see weaknesses that may need to be addressed and obstacles that you may need to overcome.

Silent retreats help you to move inward in a world that is always seeking to keep you—and your ego—busy and distracted from the spiritual path.

Daily life can be busy and hectic, so consciously making time for silent retreats can be a good way to develop and strengthen your sense withdrawal (pratyāhāra), focused concentration (dhāraṇā), and meditation (dhyāna) practice.

12. Set Boundaries

Having discipline, engaging in nonviolence towards yourself, and being discerning are all key principles for the spiritual seeker.

There is no value in saying yes to everything if; you’re burnt out, or it doesn’t feel good or serve your higher consciousness.

You must build discipline, boundaries and discernment as a priority—in order to protect your spiritual journey from temptations that seek to derail your spiritual growth.

These temptations can be sent to you in multiple different forms from addictions all the way to people. Self-reflect, be objective, say no, and let go of anything that doesn’t serve your highest good!

13. Get Creative

A part of the spiritual journey is understanding the complexity of Divinity and surrendering to allow this cosmic life force to channel through you.

If you’re an artist or creative, then developing spiritual gifts and skills such as surrendering and channelling will serve you and your creative projects really well. But even if you don’t regard yourself as creative, you can practice allowing Divine energy to express itself through you in a variety of ways.

Creative arts such as painting, poetry, drawing, dancing, music, singing, writing, gardening, pottery, and any other creative outlets are great ways to channel higher consciousness.

It’s not always easy to allow the universe to express itself through you, but with trust, safety, and practice you can allow yourself to surrender to the cosmic energy that wants to be seen through you.

Different spiritual traditions use creativity in a variety of ways from rituals, ceremonies, and sacred dance to spiritual art, body modifications, and symbols.

14. Practice Detachment, Acceptance, And Contentment

In Sanskrit, aparigraha means non-possessiveness and detachment, whereas santoṣā (pronounced san-toh-sha) means acceptance and contentment.

Detachment is a central concept to living a spiritual life and the awakening process of spiritual enlightenment. Acceptance and detachment do not always come easy to us, because the ego likes to hold onto things that encourage us to stagnate.

Take the time to self-reflect and journal about things that you might need to either accept or detach from. These can be parts of your identity, habits, addictions, limiting beliefs, trauma, emotions, material possessions, status, power, people, environments or a variety of other things that do not serve you.

And with regards to contentment, are you practising gratitude? Can you journal about things that you have to be grateful for? Are you happy with what you have? Is it enough? Are you striving for more out of necessity and need? Or perhaps greed?

Conclusion

Spiritual awakening and healing isn’t a linear path, but these tips can help you to navigate your individual journey on the quest for healing, abundance, and blissful enlightenment.
